So, what exactly are Facebook ads and how can they help you to grow a following? Facebook ads can appear in your News Feed on both the desktop and mobile app versions of Facebook. When creating a new ad to promote your Facebook page or business, you are able to create an ad that is as simple or detailed as you need or want it to be. There are a few steps you’ll need to take in order to be eligible to create a Facebook ad, that we will discuss in detail in another article. For the purposes of this article, it is important to know that you can create ads and read the analytics of your ads to see how large of an audience you are reaching to see if you need to adjust or make changes to your advertisement to grow your exposure and following.

Facebook ads are not free, they will cost money but when done correctly the return on your investment can be worth the cost.

Contests and Giveaways

Contests and giveaways are extremely popular across all social media platforms, including Facebook. They are a great way to incentivize people to like and follow your page. You can easily use a free tool to help keep your giveaways, and contest fair but using a third-party application to select a winner.

Some of the most common requirements to enter and be eligible to win a giveaway or contestant to “like” and “follow” a specific page, tag a specific number of friends, and to share the page or the contests on your own personal page. These simple requirements ensure that you are getting free advertisement, by having your existing followers share your page with their followers, therefore getting you exposure to people that you might not be able to reach on your own.

Once you have established your giveaway or contest, the next step is to get the word out there! Share your event on your business page, your personal page, Instagram, and other social media outlets. The more places you share your contest or giveaway, the larger the audience you’ll reach, increasing your chances of growing your following.

Hashtags

It should go without saying, but hashtags are going to be one of the easiest if not the easiest way for you to grow a following. Every time you create a new post, be sure to include relevant, popular, searchable hashtags, and you’re sure to see your numbers increase. This is because all other content out there that uses the same hashtag can be found, by simply searching for or following that particular hashtag.

The use of hashtags can help your following to grow, especially when you are targeting a specific audience. Your content will then appear in searches by those who are already following similar content to yours, giving you a foot in the door to gaining new followers. Chances are if they are already following similar accounts to yours, they are already interested in your niche and will be looking for more accounts to follow.

Be sure that your hashtags are relevant to your content and you do not hashtag stuff your post. Use hashtags that are trending and searchable, do some research to find out what these hashtags are, and include them in your post when appropriate.

Engage with Followers

Creating content that your audience wants to see is the first step to gaining new followers, the second is to engage with your followers. Be sure that you interact with your followers as much as you are able to, by reading comments and answering questions. Remind your followers that you read as many comments as you can, and respond as time permits.

The same goes for direct messages that you may receive from your followers. Be sure to read and respond to as many as you can without neglecting your other followers and creating new content. Oftentimes a simple “like” on a comment is all that you’ll need to give to let your followers know that you saw and acknowledged their comment.

Many large corporations do not take the time to engage with their followers, which gives their small mom-and-pop shops the advantage. Taking the time to comment and engage with your followers, gives them the feeling that they are talking to an old friend and not a large business that only wants their money. By engaging, you’re not only providing customer support to your customers and followers, but you are also building relationships. Positive relationships result in referring friends and family to check out your Facebook page and follow along.

Facebook Lives

There are so many benefits from utilizing Facebook Lives to gain new followers. One of the biggest reasons why you should consider taking advantage of Facebook Lives is that a lot of videos that have gone viral started as a Facebook Live.

Facebook Live allows you to interact and engage with your followers in real-time. Sharing the latest news, announcements, new products, and more with your audience.

If you decide to use Facebook Lives to help you grow your following, it is a good idea to try and schedule to go live at the same time every week, for example, announce to your followers that they can catch you live every Wednesday at Noon for coffee and a chat. This gives your followers something to look forward to, and to plan on.

When your followers know when they can expect you to be live, you’re more likely to get more views. All Facebook Live videos appear in the Facebook Live Map, the more viewers you have, the higher your video will rank. The higher you rank, the more likely you are to get noticed and gain new followers.

Partnerships

Another great way to gain new followers is to partner up with another account. This enables you to showcase the other accounts’ products or services to your followers and vice versa. The possibilities of who you could potentially partner with are essentially endless, but it will take some work on your part.

Start by searching for other affluent Facebook users who you would be interested in partnering with. Once you have an idea of who you would like to partner with, reach out and see if they are interested and what it will take to partner with them.

If you have a new product that you’d like to have spotlighted, offer to send them a sample to try, review, and promote to their followers by tagging your page. Oftentimes you can find an influencer that is more affordable to partner with instead of reaching out to a larger brand. This can be helpful, especially if you are on a budget, but still, need to grow your following. After finding an influencer to partner with, ask them to tag you in their post related to your partnership, thereby, allowing for their followers who are interested to check out your page and follow you if they want to see and learn more.

Maintain an Active Community

When you have a Facebook page, it is important to keep your page active with new posts and content to be viewed. Encourage your followers to make comments, provide their input, and answer any questions that you receive.

When people find your page or group and see that it is active, with conversations happening and new content being posted, they are more inclined to like and follow along. Occasionally reintroduce yourself if it is appropriate for your page so that your new followers will know the face behind the content that they enjoy.

Without actively posting and engaging with followers on your page, you’re unlikely to continue to grow your following. If a page appears to be old and stagnant, new followers won’t waste their time “liking” your page, instead, they’ll scroll on until they find an active page that posts similar content to what you used to post. Being active and posting regularly is imperative to attracting new followers to your Facebook page.

Gaining new followers on Facebook is possible, but it will take time and effort on your part. Create a page that attracts new followers, fills the need within your specific niche, and get your name and brand out there. Don’t get discouraged when the followers don’t come immediately, keep posting quality content on a regular basis and your hard work will pay off.

While it might be tempting to post random, sub-par content just to post something, but resist this urge. Post quality content that brings something of value to your followers, this is what will help you to stand out from other pages, and get your followers to share your page with others. Be an active member of your page, get to know your audience and what they want to see from you and your page. When you don’t focus solely on the number of followers you have, your page will improve and the followers will come!
